Hey guys,

So this part should be fairly simple. First, think of an OC for the Mass Effect universe. It could be any race from the original trilogy. Next, come up with a little backstory and personality for them. The game will start with all of you living in Ward 23 of Omega. It's a fairly small ward with some mining and refining happening in it, but it's major asset is the docking bay. Ward 23 is in the lower level of Omega and so most of the visitors to the station use the main docking stations in the upper level. 23 does see a fair bit of local use though, with shuttles and small ships loading and unloading cargo here to move it around without having to go inside the station itself. You have all ended up in this area for one reason or another, and are fairly well known as competent people.

Please come up with a little backstory as to how you became known in the community, maybe you were part of a gang, maybe you helped save somebody from a shuttle crash, or maybe you are the most well known prostitute in the ward, idk, totally up to you.

After you have your personality and backstory set up, it's time to assign skills. These are the things your character is good at. There are 8 of them:

Biotics
Tech
Guns
Decryption
Stealth
People Skills
Toughness
Piloting

They all default at 0. You have 6 points to assign at the beginning. The max score you can have in a skill is equal to your level +1 (you all start at lvl 1)

Specialty: pick one skill, it is your specialty, and is always treated as one higher.

Using skills: any time you need to compare your skill to another person's, such as decrypting a lock or shooting somebody, you will say what you are doing, and then roll a number of 6 sided dice equal to your skill +1 (you always get to roll at least one die(except for biotics)) rolling a 5 or a 6 counts as a success. After you describe your actions, list the number of successes you rolled, and I will tell you the results. Generally only a single success will be needed to complete a challenge.

Stunting: describing what you are doing in above average detail makes 4s also count as successes.
Example:
Jake shoots him
vs.
Jake resettles his fingers on the pistols grip, pauses to time the shot just right, and pulls the trigger.

OTHER NOTES:

Posts should be made in 3rd person to help players keep track of who is doing what.

Role Playing is a "yes, and" game. That means the goal should always be to build the story forward as opposed to stopping it. If for example you are shot, your follow up shouldn't be. "No, Jake is wearing armor and so isn't actually shot." But more along the lines of "Jake rolls with the shot, letting his armor take the brunt of the impact and bringing his own pistol up to return fire." Remember the idea is to keep the story going.

Ok, that's basically it, we'll come up with more specific answers as questions arise, and I think we can all agree to not be assholes to eachother about things like Grammer or ideas. As long as we embrace the idea of this being for fun, and that everyone is contributing something worth while, we will have a great time! OH, and please try to post something substantial at least once a day once things get moving.

START HERE! Empty SKILLS EXPLAINED

Post by Spectre058 Thu Aug 10, 2017 4:11 pm

Here is a brief explanation of each of the skills:

Biotics: This is rolled any time you want to attack somebody with Biotics, or to modify existing Biotic effects on the fly.
Tech: This is rolled any time you want to make a tech attack, such as incinerate, or when you want to modify a piece of technology on the fly
Guns: Roll this when shooting people
Decryption: Roll this when hacking a lock, or hacking a synthetic opponent
Stealth: Roll this when you want to be sneaky
People Skills: This is rolled when trying to convince somebody of something, get a better deal at a shop, or generally just interact with unhappy people
Toughness: This is rolled to stave off dying or getting knocked out.
Piloting: This is used for both air cars and space ships, and is rolled when truing to do something fancy.

Please post any questions you have, other people might have the same questions, or good answers or ideas. This game works best when we all ask anything that comes to mind.
